Nokia launches world’s smallest PC card with built-in GSM capability

Nokia today introduced an advanced new solution for wireless data communication. The Nokia Cellular Card Phone is a PC Card with a built-in GSM phone. This new product turns a laptop PC into a wireless office without a cellular phone, interface adapters or cables. The Nokia Cellular Card Phone will be available on GSM markets in Europe and Asia in the second half of 1997.

With the Nokia Cellular Card Phone, the user is able to send and receive Short Messages, faxes and e-mail, access the Internet, connect to corporate databases and download files over digital GSM networks. The laptop PC can also be used as a speakerphone to make and receive calls.

This product is easy to use, while integrating all the functionality of a cellular phone and data card. This single solution can be used in many applications in current laptop PCs and tomorrow’s PDA’s, says Mr. Reijo Paajanen, Senior Vice President, Wireless Data, Nokia Mobile Phones.

The Nokia Cellular Card Phone is compatible with most laptop computers, network computers and subnotebooks with a PC Card type II or III compatible slot and a sufficient power supply. It works with basic Windows ‘95 applications such as Microsoft Phone, Microsoft Exchange and Netscape Navigator as well as with communications applications such as MS Mail, WinFax PRO and ProComm Plus.
