February 02, 2004 By: Yen Hung ATX Telematics study measures cellphone users' interestATX Technologies, Inc. (ATX), the leading independent telematics service provider to the wireless and automotive markets, today released results of a new telematics survey of cellular phone users commissioned from The Strategis Group. The survey showed strong interest in handset-based telematics services and a preference for live operators, as opposed to automated assistance, for emergency services. The regionally balanced survey, conducted in January and February of 2000, included 500 cellular subscribers, with equal numbers of males and females. On average, respondents were 45 years old, earn incomes of $65,000, and belong to households with 3.1 persons, 2.35 cars, and 1.7 cellular or PCS phones. In addition to these findings, a demographic breakdown showed no significant variance in interest levels based on gender. Interest does increase with household size. For instance, 28 percent of one-person households are interested in location-based Emergency Roadside Assistance, and that number climbs to 43 percent in three-person households.
