February 03, 2004 By: Yen Hung SGBOY leads the way in wireless communitiesThe gay community in Singapore can now connect and interact with one another by just using their cellular phones on SGBOY's new Short-Message Service (SMS) based multi-service, SGBOY Out!. Powered by BuzzCity’s GAMMA technology, the system was designed exclusively for gay users in Singapore, making this service one of its kind in the world. The first phase of SGBOY Out! went live last Thursday with the introduction of the chat service. SGBOY Out! works with all GSM cellular phones without any additional software, users need only send a simple message containing the name of the chat room and their desired handle to a service number. Topping up of credits required to receive messages is just as easy -- by just calling a 1900 number. SGBOY Out! offers users the flexibility of expanding their social network anytime and anywhere, discretely and anonymously. More services such as matchmaking, clubbing information are in the pipeline. "SGBOY Out! provides gay users the perks of anonymity inherent in Internet Chatting, as mobile phone numbers are not displayed during the chat. As users are able to use this system just about anywhere, it facilitates gay users wishing to meet up with new people on the move," said Thomas Chong, Operations Manager of SGBOY.
