February 04, 2004 By: Yen Hung Sale of ICTV to PNCC approvedPalau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) announced today the final approval of the sale of UMDA’s fifty percent share of ICTV, Palau’s cable TV company, to PNCC for $2 million. The required approvals were secured from the U.S. Rural Utilities Service and the Palau Foreign Investment Board. This purchase gives the citizens of Palau sole ownership of ICTV through PNCC. The current worldwide trend in communications is the convergence of telephony and cable TV industries. In the case of ICTV, joining with PNCC will enable improvement and expansion of TV services. Benefits to customers of ICTV will include improved TV picture reception in the Koror area by the end of this year, and the possibility of extending service to more states in Palau. There will also be more local focus on monitoring the quality and consistency of programming. ICTV will keep up its efforts to offer Palau the best possible programming available, as well as more local, Palauan TV production and programs. Currently ICTV is negotiating for premium movie channels to provide customers with more viewing options. There will be no change in the current rates for ICTV services.
