February 04, 2004 By: Yen Hung esmertec AG and eValley team up to develop embedded iAppli(tm) and Java(tm)Technologyesmertec AG, a world leading provider of "Jbed" Java(tm) virtual machines for mobile multimedia devices, and eValley Inc., a leading provider of iAppli technology, today announced an alliance to develop embedded Java and iAppli technology for mobile devices such as cellular phones, car navigation systems, PDAs and other consumer products for a worldwide market. As a result of this alliance, cellular phone manufacturers will be able to deploy both mobile Java and iAppli software in one single step on any cellular phone platform. This unique solution will enable service providers and mobile operators using such cellular phones to dramatically increase their revenue flow by offering customers the option of downloading both Java and iAppli applications on their cellular phone without the need for special adaptations. "By combining our technologies we can offer our customers easy access to iAppli and Java applications via midlets," comments Mr. Hansruedi Heeb, CEO of esmertec AG. "This tested and stable solution significantly reduces time-to-market because it requires only one integration on the cellular phone. Jbed, one of the fastest Java virtual machines (JVM) available today, powers both the iAppli and Java applications. Jbed uses esmertec's compiler technology in place of interpretation to deliver a significant speed advantage over existing JVMs, increasing the performance of Java applications. Benefits include fast installation and compilation times, zero start up times and high-speed execution. Jbed is a well proven and tested Java virtual machine which is used in a variety of products and by more than 70 manufacturers (e.g. automotive, mobile technology, computer industry) as of today." The alliance will allow eValley, which is best known for its software i-enabler(tm) that implements NTT DoCoMo, Inc.'s Doja(tm) API, to build iAppli platforms on esmertec's Jbed (NTT DoCoMo is a leading japanese IT Company). "The Jbed technology from esmertec AG is an excellent solution that allows customers to use Java in a wide variety of embedded systems. eValley highly values Jbed and plans to use it as one of the major solutions the company provides to manufacturers of mobile devices," said Koichi Makabe, CEO of eValley, Inc.
