June 13, 2004 By: Warren Nielsen Cognima to enable CPP Group Plc's Mobile Phone Data Protection serviceCognima and CPP today announced that Cognima's data replication product, Cognima ReplicateTM, will underpin a new, market-leading Mobile Phone Data Protection service to be piloted by CPP during mid-2004. CPP Group Plc is a leading international consumer assistance business, providing a comprehensive portfolio of assistance products and services across Europe and North America to 11 million customers. The company plans to introduce this new service through a number of mobile network operators, service providers and retail partners across Europe and North America during the next 24 months, following the completion of a UK based pilot programme, which will be run in conjunction with a major Mobile Network Operator. Cognima has developed Cognima Replicate, a data replication framework which allows Mobile Network Operators, Handset Manufacturers and Service Providers to make mobile services effortless for their customers to use. For CPP's Mobile Phone Data Protection service, Cognima Replicate will be installed on the user's handset. The user's address book contacts are automatically replicated to a secure server and any new data entered by the user will be replicated immediately to the server without interrupting the user. If the phone should be lost, stolen or damaged, CPP will provide assistance through its customer service centre to restore the address book contacts to the replacement handset. To benefit from this service the handset should be any Symbian OS or Microsoft Smartphone 2002/3 phone. Andrew Fisher, Group Chief Executive of CPP Group Plc, commented: Mobile Phone Data Protection is an important new service for CPP. It enables us to extend our mobile phone offering to provide customers with not only comprehensive insurance in the event of the theft, loss or damage of their handset, but also to provide them with protection and security for their personal address book. This is precisely the service offering that our customers are telling us they are looking for. A key requirement for CPP's Mobile Phone Data Protection service was the ability for the technology to work totally invisibly on the phone. Users are unlikely to accept a data protection product that forces them to press buttons to keep their data secure, said Simon East, CEO, Cognima. Our focus on effortless, automatic data services has allowed us to build a service in partnership with CPP that users can simply install and forget. Anyone who has ever lost all of their phone contacts will instantly appreciate the value of this innovative new market offering. Also See: comparison of cell phones.Author Notes:
