September 08, 2004 By: Wendy Whittaker HP Develops Printing Mobile Phone PlatformHP has developed a mobile phone platform that will allow users to print directly from their Nokia phones. The new mobile platform is officially known as the Mobile Print Application Software for Series 60 Imaging Phones. Consumers using the mobile phone platforms will be able to print pictures, multimedia messages, text messages e-mail, calendar and contact items directly from their mobile phones to an HP printer. This eliminates the step of having to download images or files from the mobile phone to the computer before printing. The new platform requires that both the phone and the printer have Bluetooth functionality for platforms. Nokia is the first company to incorporate the platform into its mobile handsets. The Nokia 3650, Nokia 6600 and Nokia 7650 currently support the mobile phone platform. The printing platforms work on HP printers that support Bluetooth and Basic Print Profile technology. These include the HP Deskjet 450wbt and the HP Deskjet 995 ck. Other HP printers can be used to print from phones with the new mobile phone platforms if the new HP BT 1300 Bluetooth Wireless Printer Adapter is utilized. According to HP, the mobile platform takes only minimal memory in the phone itself. The onus of the process memory falls on the printer. Go To Also See: prepaid cell phones. About
