Do Mobile Phone Bundles Save You Money?

An increasing number of mobile service providers are offering mobile phone bundles as a pricing option to their customers. Mobile phone bundles combine the costs of mobile phone service with other communications services. Depending on the carrier, bundles for phones might include landline phone service, long distance, broadband and even cable television.

Carriers who provide multiple types of communication connections use mobile phone bundle to offer incentives to customers who subscribe to more than one type of service. While the right bundle can save you money, you really have to do your homework. Bundle for phones may entice you to purchase additional services you really don’t need.

Here are some questions to ask when you consider any type of mobile phone bundled service plan.

  1. What services are included in the bundle? What would each of these services cost you if they were purchased separately?
  2. Are taxes, surcharges and other fees included in the mobile phone bundle? If not, the bottom line can be significantly higher than what is advertised.
  3. What does each separate piece of the bundle offer and how does it compare to an unbundled service? For example, will the mobile phone piece of the bundle give you free nights and weekends? What about free roaming and long distance? The company may say you don’t need to worry about long distance because its part of the bundle. But if your mobile phone now has free long distance, you’re losing out.
  4. What will it cost you to get out of contracts with your current service providers. Will you be charged fees for moving your service? This can really add to the initial cost of the mobile phone bundle.
