EA Games Now Available On Mobile Phone Gaming Platforms

Recognizing the potential market that mobile phone users represent, more manufacturers are producing games that can be played on mobile phone gaming platforms. Entertainment Arts, a giant in the gaming industry, recently announced it would start making its games available on mobile phone gaming platforms.

Entertainment Arts is working with Digital Bridges, a Scottish mobile entertainment firm, to get its games ready for mobile phone platforms. Some of the first EA games to be available to mobile phone users will be FIFA Football, The Sims and Harry Potter. The games will be available through download.

Part of what encouraged Entertainment Arts to move into the mobile phone platform was analyzing the number of mobile phone users who download applications such as ring tones. EA also expects to reach a new type of consumer through the mobile phone market.

While serious gamers will stick to mobile gaming devices like the Nintendo GameBoy, a market of new gamers may be discovered. Women, for instances, may make their first foray into the gaming world by downloading a game for their mobile phone.

Recent improvements in the technology of the mobile phone platform make phones more conducive to a new level of electronic gaming. Interactive, multiple-player games could eventually become available on the mobile phone platform. VoIP technology will also enhance the mobile gaming experience when it becomes more widely available. EA would like to find ways to link games played on a mobile phone platform with those played on gaming consoles or PCs. That way, players could save games and move them from their PC or game console to their phone.
