Mobile phone data protection now available

Why do you need mobile phone data protection? Consider this: You’re traveling and you lose your mobile phone. Not only have you lost your means of communication, you’ve lost all the data stored your mobile phone as well. Now you’re phone-less and phone-numberless in a strange city wishing you had some sort of mobile phones data protection.

While phones data protections wouldn’t have prevented your phone from getting lost or stolen, it can help you easily retrieve all of the data. CPP Group Plc, a leading European provider of mobile phone insurance, is now offering data protection services.

CCP’s mobile phone protection service works seamlessly without any user interruption. CCP uses data replication technology developed by Conigma to safeguard all the data stored on a subscriber’s mobile phone. The user’s address book is automatically stored on a secure server. Any changes made by the user are replicated immediately. The service effectively operates as an on-going automatic backup.

If phones are damaged, lost or stolen, CCP’s customer service works with the subscriber to restore all data to a new mobile phone. CCP can also remotely disable the lost or stolen phones to prevent access to the data stored on it. The mobile data protections service works with any Symbian OS or Microsoft Smartphone enabled phone.

Once the mobile data protections service is initiated, the processes of data storage and replication are completely invisible to the end-user. Subscribers can check the status of their protections service from a display on their phone. CCP launched a pilot program of the protection service in May 2004 in the UK. The service should be available through retail partners in Europe and North American within the next 24 months.
