September 10, 2004 By: Wendy Whittaker New Disposable Wireless Cellular Phone AnnouncedA Canadian company and U.S. company are joining forces to manufacture disposable wireless cellular phones. The Cyclone, as the product will be named, is an inexpensive, analog wireless cellular phone. Wireless Age, Inc. of Toronto, and Azonic of New York are teaming up to produce the new wireless phones. They are calling the Cyclone “a phone for the phoneless.” Two wireless models will be offered. The first will be a small, analog cell phone designed for emergency use. The compact phone will be easy to store in glove compartments and first aid kits. The wireless cellular phones can also be kept in areas where disaster supplies are stocked. The second model will be prepaid wireless cell phone suitable for short-term use. Wireless Age and Azonic will market this phone to businesspeople and tourist who want to use a wireless phone while traveling, but don’t need long-term service contracts or expensive handsets. Cyclone wireless cell phones will come ready to use with AA batteries. The phones will also be refreshable. In an agreement with the Filippo Guani Revocable Trust, Azonic recently acquired the intellectual properties, patents and molds that will go into making the Cyclone cell phone. The cooperating companies believe the new disposable wireless cellular phone will fill a market void. They said they expect to appeal to customers who now use prepaid wireless cell phones and to those who cannot afford the wireless phones and services now available. Wireless Age and Azonic did not give an estimate of when Cyclone phones will be on the market. Also See: cell phone comparisons. About
