Do cellular phones radiation levels cause cancer?

The debate continues over whether or not cellular phones radiation is harmful to humans. Studies have produced differing results, but to date, no study has definitively linked cellular phones radiation to human heath hazards. On the other hand, no study has proven that prolonged exposure to cell phones is completely safe.

The question is not whether cell phones emit radiation. To transmit a signal, a cell phone emits low levels of electromagnetic radiation. The amount of radiation can vary from phone-to-phone and even changes depending on how the cellular phone is used. For example, cellular phone radiation increases slightly when the mobile is used with its antenna down.

The Federal Communications Commission is in charge of enforcing standards for acceptable levels of radiation. The FCC tests the radiation level of every model sold in the United States. You can find out how your phone rates on the FCC web site.

Health concerns about radiation from cell phones arise because cell phones are held close to the head. The Food and Drug Administration lists some precautions to take if you are concerned about exposure. These include limiting the time you talk on your cellular using a hands-free headset. The further you keep the telephone from your body, the less your exposure.

Again, there is no evidence that radiation from cellulars causes any harm to humans. That means that is also no evidence that shields and other radiation-guarding accessories actually protect you from any real danger.
