August 07, 2005 By: Wendy Whittaker Nokia Cell Phone Designed for GamingThe N-Gage QD™, Nokia cell phone launched in Fall 2003, was designed with one thing in mind — gaming. At first glance, the wireless device looks like a mini Gameboy, but it’s really these fully functioning cell phones that the company hopes will appeal to the gaming crowd. The new phone was slower to catch on than Nokia had hoped. Critics panned the screen size and the way games were loaded on to the original N-Gage cellular phone. Nokia did a quick redesign and introduced the N-Gage QD™ in April. Sales of the newly designed cell phones/game decks are on the rise. The N-Gage QD™ has a larger screen than the original phone and a hot swap slot for loading game cards. Nokia got rid of the MP3 player on the original N-Gage cell phone and lowered the price. The N-Gage QD™ has many of the features you’d expect from Nokia. You can make calls and browse the web from the dual band phone. Blue Tooth technology makes it possible to transfer files wirelessly from the phone. Nokia, the worlds largest maker of cell phones, announced in September 2004 that sales of the N-Gage and N-Gage QD™ phones had reached one million. Initially, Nokia had hoped to sell several million of the cell phones by the end of 2004. The company now predicts that next million sales of the gaming phones will happen very quickly. N-Gage QD™ Nokia phones have been available in the United States since July 2004. Related Items Also See: free cell phones. About
