September 13, 2004 By: Wendy Whittaker Motorola Mobile Phones Have QWERTY KeyboardIt looks like regular Motorola mobile phones with a numeric keypad, but wait…it’s more. When you flip open this new Motorola mobile you get a fully integrated QWERTY keyboard. A what? QWERTY is not the name of hot new technology. It’s the standard typewriter keyboard that was developed 140 years ago. (Look at the top row of letters on your computer. See the QWERTY?) Motorola is following other electronics makers and incorporating QWERTY keyboards into some new Motorola mobile phones. Palm One started the QWERTY movement when they introduced their Treo 600 mobile phone. QWERTY keyboards make it much easier to send text messages and e-mail from mobile phones. Motorola’s V630 mobile phone is the company’s entry into the QWERTY market. Manufacturers are experimenting with a variety of designs for incorporating QWERTY keyboards into mobile handsets. Some keyboards fold in half, others flip open and at least one mobile phone has a detachable keyboard. The Motorola mobile phone has a traditional number keypad on the front. Users flip open the phone to access the QWERTY keyboard. The V630 Motorola mobile phone has an integrated digital camera and full Bluetooth functionality. The tri-band GSM mobile can function as a hands-free speakerphone with polyphonic speakers. One of the best features of the Motorola design is the phone’s internal display. The color landscape display is large and makes this mobile phone ideal for browsing the Internet or reading documents. The V630 Motorola mobile phone will be available in some markets in late 2004.
