Toshiba World's Storage Device Is The Smallest

It’s official. Toshiba makes the world’s smallest hard disk drive. Toshiba World's storage disk device will be included in the 2005 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Toshiba introduced the mini storage disk to the world in January 2004. It is the first hard disk drive device to accommodate multi-gigabyte storage in a sub-one inch size. The initial capacity of the world’s smallest disk is 2 to 4 gigabytes.

The small Toshiba Worlds storage disk will be used all kinds of mobile applications worldwide. The new Toshiba World's storage disk will bring HDD functionality to the mobile phones, digital camcorders, and portable storage devices of the future. With world's HDD these devices can become even more lightweight and powerful.

Toshiba hopes the new chip will be a spark to the world’s tech designers in innovating a whole array of small but powerful digital products. Some possible applications for the new Toshiba worlds storage chip include wristwatch PDAs, wearable cell phones and digital cameras, and MP3 players that are contained entirely within the headset.

Toshiba planned to start sampling the world’s smallest HDD this summer and begin production in the fall of 2004.

Before introducing the .85-storage disk, Toshiba World's already made one of the world’s smallest hard disk drives. Toshiba’s World 1.8-inch HDD is used in some of the world’s most sought after mobile entertainment products including MP3 players, notebook computers and handheld GPS devices. Toshiba introduced the 1.8-inch HDD to the world wide market in 2000 and has manufactured more than 3 million units.
